yarn along

DSC_0223

I split for sleeves on Phoebe’s birthday sweater last night (finally!) and I’m a little nervous that at this rate it’s probably unlikely I will finish this in time for her birthday later this month.  It’s just slow going, all-over color work with fingering weight yarn.  However, it will be so pretty in the end.  Can you see the horses on the yoke?  I’m hoping now that that part of the pattern is done, the body section will go a little faster (the chart is a bit simpler).

I grabbed Elli and the Harp Maker while at the library yesterday.  When we are there I rarely have time to look for books for myself but I saw this one as I was walking to the children’s section and it caught my eye.  I started it last night, and realized it’s been a long time since I’ve ready some fiction.  It was so nice to fall into a story.  I don’t know much about it and not sure if I will love it, but it was good light reading so far.  Do you have any fiction recommendations for me?  I’m in need of some, I realize.

  1. I love to see colorwork as it is coming along. I am not sure there is anything lovelier. And this pattern/colors are going to be SO perfect for Phoebe! I bet you’ll get the sweater done- I have confidence in you!

Have you ever read Leif Enger? I love his writings. Peace Like a River is so beautiful. Gilead and that series by Marilynne Robinson. Also- PGWodehouse. Have you ever read Little Women? Now would be fun for that title! 😉

I’ve been in a non-fiction kick for a while too- I am in need of some fiction too. 🙂

  2. Thank you Rebecca for your vote of confidence! 🙂 She really is going to love it, no matter when it is done, but of all my children she is the one who looks the most forward to momma’s hand made sweaters so I do so hope it is wrapped up for her for her birthday. Thank you for the book recommendations! I actually was just thinking of Little Women the other day, I so so love the movie. I read through some of the book with Phoebe before she lost interest a couple of years ago and I remember being so struck with Marmee’s character in the book and wanting to read more. Wren’s middle name is Josephine after Jo March. 🙂 Anyway, I’ll look into the other recommendations. Thank you! I hope you find some time to read some fiction too. Sending you lots of love. ❤

  3. Oh my! The sweater is just lovely. I do hope you get it finished in time for her birthday. I admire your knitting skills. I would be so intimidated with such a project. I consider myself an intermediate knitter. I mean, I COULD knit the sweater but would be a wreck the whole time.

As for books, I’ve been in a major reading slump lately. Most of what I’ve picked up lately has been non-fiction. I did just read Mossflower, the second book in the Redwall series. Those books are so good but I can only take them one at a time. They make me sad sometimes.

Anyway, I’m glad you had some time to knit and to get your Christmas tree. The tree farm looks lovely and your day sounds equally as lovely.
